Mentaiko (Mentaiko /めんたいこ) isa food made from processed and pickled cod roe. It is usually added withchili powder to reduce the fishy smell, so it usually has a less spicy taste. Because North Korea calls cod "myungtae" (명태), after being introduced to Japan, the roe of this fish was naturally called "mentaiko". Mentaiko is mainlyused in Japanese cuisine. It can be eaten as it is, mixed with rice balls , or used as seasoning for a spicy taste.
